J-Fiber & the Nite Crew

A progressive-psychedelic rock band out of Austin, JFNC brings jams that melt your mind with complex rhythm and discordant melodies.

Branding, Event Promotion, Merchandise Production

Challenge: Build the band’s image to match their unique sound & connect with their fans.

“Cheeky vintage meets old metal at a psych-jam fest.”

This statement says it all. The band gave this description of themselves, which began an adventurous creative process to visually bring this brand personality to life.

Style boards

J-Fiber’s continuously changing voice was born out a fusion of these 3 style boards.

Sketches

Inspiration came from legendary rock bands Rush, The Rolling Stones, & Iron Maiden.

Digital Exploration

The logo began to solidify. Separate primary and secondary logos were rendered digitally.

J-Fiber’s debut show was a low-stress chance to pressure test the designs with home-made merch.

Refinement

With more live shows on the horizon, the logo got a revamp. Feedback and review furthered design decisions. The customized characters were reworked for readability, making space for the elements to reside in. The character shapes were simplified to resemble original shapes. Flow improved with the flourish of the J leading across logo.

“Cheese Kingdom!”

— Anonymous JFNC Member

If you hang around the band enough, you might hear this yelled in greeting or after a sick jam session. It references and pays homage to their recording space and production process.

Icon set

Brand personality blossomed as these icons came into fruition. Pizza, of course references Cheese Kingdom; while the skull is a symbol of the undying roots of rock, reminiscent of Iron Maiden’s skeletal mascot, Eddie.

JFNC promoted their shows with these digitally illustrated event posters.

reflection

Working with a group that needs their logo updated to a makeshift gig poster on a whim, being open to feedback and trial and error with clients fosters growth in technical skills and problem solving.
